Let's start from the beginning... Carrying your Baby ❤

Updated: Sep 11, 2020

Congratulations on your new born baby!

Now what?

If you are a first time parent, it must feel overwhelming to hold such a tiny human in your arms... a tiny human that you made! Oh to feel so much love for such a tiny thing.. so.. how DO you hold a new born baby? Here are a few tips:

Wash your hands. Their immune systems are still relatively immature so make sure that you are clean before handling your baby.

Support your baby's head and neck. Scoop the nape of your baby and secure with a firm but comfortable hold. Scoop the bottom then raise gently from the bed or crib. Bring toa face-to-face position then eventually shift to cradle hold position as desired. When carrying your baby upright, also known as the shoulder hold, support the head and neck with the palms of one hand, and support the bum with the other hand. When cradling your baby, support the neck with your palm or the crook of your arm.

Never shake your newborn baby. There is such a thing called SHAKEN BABY SYNDROME. Brain damage can occur in as little as 5 seconds of shaking due to baby's delicate body. Here is a link to more information about it: https://www.webmd.com/parenting/baby/shaken-baby-syndrome#1 and https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/shaken-baby-syndrome/symptoms-causes/syc-20366619 . Only do the "swoosh and sway" technique as necessary.

Tender Loving Care. Be gentle and loving. It will feel natural. Don't worry.

It may take a little getting used to, but now you have all the time in the world to practice holding your little precious one. Remember, a little care and a lot of love goes a long way.
